I went to Smart Styles in Alabama several different times. The first time, I asked for a relaxer. It turned out great. The second time, I asked for a relaxer (about a month later) and it was not very straight, but it was acceptable. Two weeks later, I asked for highlights. The stylist told me that she could not use the color that I wanted because it would cause breakage. She advised me to use the color that she picked and said that it WOULD NOT CAUSE BREAKAGE. I agreed. The color looked wonderful when I left. A month later, I went back for a relaxer and the stylist said that it would be no problem. A few weeks later, my hair started to break off. I continued to get a relaxer every month as the stylist advised me, and more and more hair broke off. The last stylist applied the relaxer, very slowly, to small sections of my hair. The entire procedure took almost 30 - 40 minutes and she did not want to rinse it off, saying that "it would not be straight". I begged to tears for her to rinse it off. She finally agreed, but I had several, painful chemical burns at the top of my head. She pretended not to see them and acted as if everything was normal. When I went home, I realized that she did not remove all of the relaxer and I had to painfully wash and condition my (now brittle) hair again. I will never get another relaxer again or visit a salon - I'm growing my natural hair out. (By the way, the worst thing about all of this is that you can't sue, because they make you sign a form before they begin the procedure.)
Mori kahimori@yahoo.comWe live in Muskogee, Oklahoma. I went to Smart Styles in the Muskogee Wal-Mart to get a perm and haircut in August 2006. The manager, Lanie, cut my hair and butchered it. I went back the next day to have her straighten it up, but she wasn't there. She wouldn't be back until Tuesday. I asked the two girls that were working if one of them could try and do something with my hair. They told me that they did not cut hair for free, they would have to charge me again. I told them they would not have to worry about it. I would tell everyone that I knew what a bad job they do when cutting your hair and how rude they are. I wouldn't take a dog to the Smart Styles beauty shop in Muskogee, Oklahoma Wal-Mart. The manager Lanie has butchered my mother's hair and a number of other people that I know. I don't know how she can be the manager of a beauty shop, when she can't cut hair. The young women that were so rude don't need a job very bad, because they have told a number of customers the same thing they told me. You sure can't get repeat business that way. I do not understand why Wal-Mart is letting them be in their stores. All they are doing is giving WAl-Mart a bad reputation. I know that me nor any of my family or friends will ever let Smart Styles cut or perm our hair again.

kassie sheena_c@hotmail.com Jenette at Smart style on wards drive in conway,Arkansas is a four star stylist and she is always so plesant. Your present manager tries to me tries to find ways to get them to leave for she is not peasant..
Jo Sams sandy1arbbs.net Hello there my name is Dani and I worked at a Smartstyle in Missoula Montana located inside our Wal-mart supercenter I feel that I am a great hairdresser, I've been doing hair for 5 years My opinion has been more than backed up by my clients, Even when I would have a new client in my chair I would be interuppted by a client I did the week before telling me, how great there hair was and there spouse would be with them saying, yeah They haven't looked this good in ages, anyway, I always took as much time as was needed for the person in my chair, My motto has always been quality not quantity, well I guess that did not fly well with my crocthety over-weight manager, and some of the girls in the salon, I suppose since I didn't allow my husband to come into the salon and sit and gossip with all the girls, and since I never took personal phone calls tying up the salon phone and my husband and I never went "boozing" it up with the other stylists I guess I didn't fit in so well?, So what, I kept my head up and worked hard being promised I'd make 40% commission and more well, I rarely made 40% being told I was too slow. it seemed like overnight, but One day I came into work, and all of the stylists were talking about me, as I came in they all would immediately shut-up, a couple of the stylists including the manager started saying horrible, malicious things about me, one night last week the girl I was closing with finally let me in on all of the gossip about me, all was not true and can you f-ing believe they were even "upset" that I had used the bathroom a couple minutes to long, and then all of the sudden I wasn't allowed to close the till at the end of the night, because about two weeks before that me and the only girl I feel that was kind to me, we were closing the till and we were 100.00 dollars off, There were over 5 different stylists hands in that till that day, Me and the other girl were just sick, about it, I even offered taking 100.00 bucks out of my paycheck, we looked all over for that 100.00 dollars, but the manager reassured us with "what can you do" All seemed to be back to normal I even closed a couple of times after that, then all of the sudden they all turned on me, I'll have you know I never ever ever ever took any money out of the till (besides tips) especially no 100.00 dollars. So any way on Monday morning I called my incompitent manager and asked her WHAT is going on? She said that she never talked to the other stylists about me behind my back, but that she did speak to a couple of the girls because they supposidly came to her with complaints about me. (Is there a difference)?? Then she proceeded to make up some B.S of a story that I was Flighty, I asked her to explain herself and she didn't seem to comprehend and just kept saying the word flighty over and over, what a moron, Any way I said to her I couldn't work for a company that obviously set me up with no proof or what ever and also bullys there girls until they leave crying, and you can never reach the higher bosses to see if this is acceptable, So I quit, Yeah Happy thansgiving to me and my family, what, I'm scared of the most though is that this harrassment and bullying will continue and devastate another talented hairdresser, Smartstyle or Regis Cooperatrion needs to take a good look at the disgusting attitudes and behaviors of their staff. As i'm typing this, this manager, Bonnie just left me a message very rudely " To come get my paycheck!" yeah I know it's payday, it's like she just thinks she can keep bullying and manipulating me, when I go to get my paycheck , I'm going to make sure she loses my number. Thanks for listening
Dani Hartman www.pisceshairstylist@yahoo.comI am a stylist in a major retail company and what you seen in SMART STYLES happens in all salons.. Its the matter of being a good hairstylist and loving your work... Maybe its need to be taken up with that manager of that salon or taken up at cooperate level... I have been a hairstylist for 18 yrs and I've seen alot and its hard to find a good hairstylist that wants to work... You might have gotten good service in other places but I am sure they have had the same problems there like they do at SMART STYLES... And I have read some of those comments and some of those stylist need be fired and need not to be doing hair... Only way you going to make money at being a good hairstylist is taken pride in your work and and doing your best... And if you think being a hairstylist is something you can make fast money with, you have another thing coming... I am sure there are some good hairstylist at SMART STYLES, like I tell my clients, If you go someplace else, asked the receptionist, WHO IS THE BEST HERE, OR WHO HAS BEEN HERE LONGEST... Its dosent hurt to asked those questions... Like I specialized in color and color corrections, but I don't like doing childrens cuts... The stylist and receptionist knows that... Some stylist are better at something and other are better at other thing.....You just have to asked.... Like I was saying I am sure there are good stylist and bad one but if up to the customer to asked to get the quality work they want from a stylist... ADVICE: LOOK AT THE STYLISTS APPEARENCE, LOOK AT THE STYLIST HAIR, those are the ones who like what they do... Most of the time......
Dewayne Mackey masterofhair@sbcglobal.netI think you should all just shut up or go back to Smart Style and get butch crewcuts. Maybe a 1/4 inch or less?
Jennifer Logghe west42rtz@aol.comI took my sons to smartstyle at walmart in gulf breeze. I left them there while I went to get some groceries. Upon returning my 9 year old was in tears holding his head. His head had been completely cut with a "1" all over his head. Come on now- what common sense would someone named Jessica do to a child? What 4th grader would want his head shaved? They have both had many cuts at different places and no one has ever done that. Thumbs down to smart style. The child was devastated. I have a call in to customer service "heidi" and she was gone for the day. I refuse to go back again - it was about 30 seconds for the cut.
elizabeth mcgee5748@aol.comI worked for smart style for a bout a month, ha what a joke.. All there promises to the stylists are not even fact... How about 40% commission? Smart styles is nothing but a chop shop the stylists work like Machines one right after the other how does one give good customer service in a salon such as this.. It doesnt surprise me to see the amount of complaints on here about stylists in the salons, most of they stylists are overly worked and underpaid, One month was enough for me.. This is no way to treat customers

LH lauralh@bellsouth.netI went to Smart Style located in the Bentonville, AR Wal-mart the other night. I arrived at 8:15. The sign said they close at 9. There was two stylist on duty who where sitting down talking to each other when I arrived (no customers in sight). When I nicely asked for a quick trim (no wash or style) I was told they weren't taking anymore customers because they had to clean up. In that case the sign should say they close at 8:15. That was the first time I have ever been there and it will be my last. Thanks for listening.

Jo Ann Sams freecherokeegal60@yahoo.comI just want to say that I work for Fantastic Sams. There is a Smart Stlye located in the same shopping center inside Wal-mart.I do not know where they get there stylists from. They apparently do not have a clue as to what they are doing. We have to fix or try to fix the bad hair cuts and horrible hair colors and Hi_lights.I cannot believe the work that comes out of that place. It's completely horrible. And the prices they charge for the messed up work that they do.There really needs to be something done about this. They need to at least offer some type of extended training or something,or maybe they just don't care.
sammie sammie_ann2003@yahoo.comI hope that the employee that did your hair in Suffolk, Virginia didn't transfer to Franklin, Virginia. I visited the salon in Smart Style Salon in Franklin, VA and to only be disappointed with my service. My hair looked like crap. The next time I went to the Franklin salon, I was refused service, the salon was open but the person working told me that she had balanced her cash register and was not doing any hair, I thought there was miscommunication, I didn't want her to do my hair, I wanted to buy some hair products, I went inside the salon at 6:50pm the salon doesn't close until 8:00pm. I never got my product because the lady stated to me that she had been there all day long by herself and she was not doing any hair. When I complained to the corporate office which took me several times to get a representative, the representative immediately defended the work in Franklin, VA by telling me that the corporate office told her to close the store at 6:00pm but there was no sign to say closed and when I asked the salon worker if she was opened she told me yes, to me as a customer that was an indication that she could sell me the products, the representative told me that I was not denied service, to me if you say that you are open and I request a product that you don't sell to me then you are refusing me service. I will never patronize another Smart Style Salon with the type of customer service I experienced in Franklin, Virginia. There are many salons that would appreciate my business. This situation really disappointed me and I am considering filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well as letting the company that owned the product know that I tried to buy there product from a salon worker that stated that since she had been by herself all day and was not doing anythingelse but yet the close sign stated 8:00pm. Little did the salon worker know that another potential customer saw me come out and asked me if they were open, I told her no, the customer stated I guess I'll make my appointment somewherelse. Smart Style, support your customers and your customers will support you!
Mindy Mindypurvis@hotmailI just went and got a perm and a haircut over the weekend. When I called and asked how much a perm was they told me 39.95 plus a haircut. When I left I was really out raged, I ended up paying 73.00 for a perm and a haircut. I will never go there again. There isn't much curl there at all and she didn't cut much hair off at all. I am not happy at all. I relocated out to this area and needed done so that is why I went there. I used to get my hair done in my home town and it would only cost me 45.00 for both the perm and a hair cut and my is not long at all it is only shoulder length hair. I will never go to that place again and be robbed of 72.00 when their is nothing really to show for it.
shirley mugssh@yahoo.comI went to Smart Style Salon at Suffolk, Virginia , Walmart, for a color and cut.I am a 55 year old professional woman, and told the manager precisely what I wanted...a cut that was not too short due to the fact that my hair is fine, and I needed to tease for volume. The color was poor, but I could work on that. The nightmare was that my hair was cut so short, that after 2 weeks growth,it still stands up straight on my head ! Throughout the entire cutting process, I kept worriedly asking the "Manager" who did my hair, not to cut too short. She actually ignored me, and smiling stated she was "not going to give me a baldy". I was in shock as she spiked my hair using a glob of fixative ! I am still struggling with my hair everyday, and I certainly would never return nor recommend anyone to her or that salon. I would like to sue for the utter despair this has caused me. I would like to see this poor excuse of a hairdresser fired.
